Ashley Geelan’s lies about his own mother

Ashley Geelan’s Bluesky account spent 19 July 2026 attacking Neil Mitchell, 3AW, KIIS FM, Kyle Sandilands, ARN and commercial radio standards. Media criticism is fair game. What is not fair game is using a media-branded account to publish a rolling set of serious claims, personal boasts, sexualised anecdotes and reputational smears with little or no evidence.

This is the pattern Geelan Lies keeps coming back to: Ashley Geelan does not merely get details wrong. He tells stories as if assertion is evidence, then uses those stories to attack other people.

The clearest example in this thread is his claim about his mother. Geelan wrote that his mother was “the first woman in Victoria” to graduate Form 6, Year 12, and was dux of Neerim South High School. That claim does not survive a basic history check. Victorian girls were sitting matriculation exams from the 1870s. Melbourne newspapers were listing girls as Form VI duxes decades before Geelan’s mother could possibly have attended Neerim South High School. The Victorian Government school listing says Neerim South High School opened on 1 January 1963. So unless Geelan has some highly specific, carefully worded school-only claim that he did not actually write, the broad public claim is false.

That matters. A journalist does not get to inflate a family story into a statewide first and expect readers to swallow it because it sounds dramatic.

The rest of the thread follows the same bad habit.

Geelan claims he was fired from a regional radio station after swearing on air. That might be true, but he gives no station, date, program, role, manager, recording or independent source. He wants the credibility benefit of having been inside radio, but not the evidentiary burden that comes with making a public professional claim.

He claims his late mother was a victim of a serious sexual crime in the 1970s, then uses that claim to support a public argument about Neil Mitchell, Kyle Sandilands and KIIS FM. Again, no document, no contemporaneous record, no source trail. It is presented as emotional authority, not journalism.

He claims a teenage incident left him unable to form relationships with women and says he later went to a brothel at 25. Once again, readers are given a dramatic personal story with no way to test it. That might be acceptable in a memoir. It is not evidence for a public attack on other people’s ethics.

Then there are the direct smears. Geelan alleges Mitchell was “up to his neck” in 3AW’s Cash for Comment scandal and says Mitchell “ratted out” colleagues. He also says a headline claiming Mitchell supports rapists and paedophiles would not be a stretch. Those are serious reputational claims. In a newsroom, they would need sourcing. On Geelan’s feed, they are dropped as insults.

This is not a one-off lapse. It is a continued pattern: big claim, no proof, personal grievance, public target.

The ethical failure is not just the language, although the language is ugly. Geelan criticises crude live-radio sexual content by repeating crude sexual examples himself. He criticises broadcast standards while publishing lurid references to rape, paedophiles, prison violence and sexual trauma. He uses his mother’s alleged trauma, his own alleged sexual history and serious claims about public figures as weapons in a Bluesky fight.

A person can post like that, if that is who they want to be. But they cannot then demand the credibility of a media outlet.

Geelan Mitchell Media is not behaving like a careful publisher here. It is behaving like a personal grievance account with a masthead. The Form 6 claim is demonstrably wrong on the public record. The radio firing claim is unverified. The sexual-history claims are unverified. The claims about Neil Mitchell are unsupported. The prison-violence rhetoric is grotesque. Put together, they show the same problem Geelan Lies has documented before: Ashley Geelan keeps telling stories that outrun the evidence.

That is why this matters. It is not about tone policing. It is about credibility. If Geelan wants to act as a journalist, he can start by doing the basic work journalists owe readers: check facts, separate evidence from allegation, and stop dressing personal attacks up as reporting.

Until then, the label fits. These are not just rough posts. They are another entry in Ashley Geelan’s public record of lies, exaggerations and unsupported smears.
